Putting up the skeletons, witches, and other Halloween decorations, we thought about why we like this holiday. Dressing up in costume allows us to slip out of ourselves and be someone or something else – to play, be a kid, eat candy.

Vacations can often function a little like that as we step away from routines, our familiar persona, and open to different experiences, different aspects of ourselves, and hopefully enjoy treats! Even a short trip, for us, to Costco in Rohnert Park, allows a refresh as we drive through the redwoods and valleys along California 128 – creating time for lunch and time to talk. Refreshing! For years, we would have lunch weekly at a favorite restaurant that created dishes for us and other plant-based diners, even naming one Jeff’s Tostada! After 20 years, it closed, and we miss that mini getaway.

October also marks planning for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s celebrations (we’ll soon be posting our special menus for each!). Life speeds up. We hope you find ways to pause, step out of the everyday, and be enlivened by possibilities.

Hope we see you soon,

Joan and Jeff
