Jeff Stanford decorating for the holidays at Stanford Inn Mendocino

As we move into the holiday season, excitement and anticipation builds. What we want to celebrate is the spirit of giving and “give thanks” for that spirit. Our local PBS station, KQED, recently reported on a study that found listening or watching “underdog” stories decreases stress as much as meditation. Underdog stories inspire and increase hopefulness. When we hear of neighbors helping neighbors, we feel the same. The heart-warming stories that emerge from disasters are always those that tell of one person helping another. Being of service is the greatest gift we give ourselves while giving to another.

In our small community we depend on one another. Sometimes it is as simple as chain-sawing a fallen tree blocking a driveway or providing services when there is a power outage. Our differences are irrelevant when we simply do what is needed.

We hope you create opportunities to assist those with some need. Happy Thanks-giving and come visit us while we decorate for the holidays (and check out our Thanksgiving Menu)!
