black dog in forest

We often write about connecting to nature and making decisions to lessen our footprint. Doing this here – for example, our organic farming, landscaping with trees, even if they interrupt views from some rooms, we have created a place for birds, pollinators, insects, reptiles, and a variety of animals from gophers to fox – not to mention a place our guests appreciate. It is a gift to spend time outdoors, walking in our gardens, sitting among the growing trees as well as walking along the cliffs, on beaches, and in the forests. We have been thinking and learning about global forests.

In March we wrote that “Our Green Heart” by Diana Beresford-Kroeger is one of the most important books released over the past 50 years. We invite you to take some time in the forest and suggest checking out her work which provides a deeper knowledge of the relationship between trees and ourselves that is truly awe inspiring. You can do this anywhere and a little knowledge of the forest and trees goes a long way to deepen appreciation for the life of forests. And if you can, come to California’s North Coast and spend time in the Bishop Pine and Redwood Forests. Breathe the aerosols that relax and heal us. Feel the connections.

Through a deeper appreciation of nature, we become whole…
